For 30 years my love of art waited quietly as I pursued nursing and education.
I was priveleged to provide health care in its most high-tech form in a Chicago area Intensive Care Unit and in its most low-tech form in the Amazon rainforest as I supervised and trained workers for medical, vaccination and dental clinics. Later, I spent another 12 years devoted to training and education in South Brazil's mountainous “Serra Gaúcha” region.
Working in many countires and cultures over the years gave me a broad view of style and perspective. When we moved back to the US in mid 2005, I decided to return to a focus on art and have been amazed at the enjoyment and opportunites I have experienced.
My work draws from life experience and a love of color.
I started painting again in 2003 while living in Caxias do Sul under local painter, Selestino de Oliveira. Selestino's major emphasis was on the balance and contrast of light and dark in a painting.
In 2007, I became interested in glass and began to develop the stained glass mosaic process that I am currently applying to an increasing number of project styles.
Glass is a fantastic medium for depicting the diversity of nature.
Like in the outdoor world, its rich array of textures, translucence and color shine or recede as the daylight changes and the lights of night appear. Whether in the direct sunshine or reflec
ting the glow of indoor lamps, these colors jump to the observer’s eye and draw us into their shape and rhythm.
